Valvur at AGE Lagos: Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity in Esports

Our CEO and founder Ignat Bobrovich had the honor of participating in AGE Lagos, an event dedicated to advancing esports in Africa. It was an incredible opportunity to meet with industry leaders, organizers, and passionate individuals working to shape the future of gaming on the continent.
During the event, our CEO presented Valvur’s vision on cybersecurity in esports, highlighting the urgent need to address online threats, fraud, and data security within competitive gaming. As African esports expands, ensuring safe and secure gaming environments becomes a top priority. The discussions at AGE Lagos reinforced the importance of collaboration in strengthening digital safety measures.

Beyond presenting our vision, AGE Lagos provided a platform for valuable networking and potential cooperation with key stakeholders from across Africa. The exchange of ideas on fostering a more secure, inclusive, and sustainable esports ecosystem underscored the growing demand for cybersecurity solutions tailored to the region’s unique challenges.

Challenges and Opportunities in African Esports

African esports faces unique hurdles, many of which would be unthinkable to gamers in Europe or North America. Power outages and unstable internet connections are daily realities. Infrastructure gaps make large-scale online competitions difficult to execute. But instead of treating these as insurmountable problems, African esports is innovating to adapt. From offline LAN tournaments to mobile gaming hubs, the region is finding its own way to thrive.

Another standout factor is the massive opportunity for integrating esports with education. In 2021, while leading Afrika Esports Series, the team of Valvur saw the numbers reflecting this potential. Now, having spent time on the ground in Nigeria and across the continent, we have seen the real-life stories behind those numbers. Esports is more than just entertainment—it’s a tool for education, community engagement, and career development.

Cybersecurity in African Esports: An Urgent Priority

Beyond infrastructure challenges, one critical issue that demands immediate attention is cybersecurity. As esports adoption grows, so do the risks of scams, data breaches, and cyber threats targeting players. Many gaming platforms used in Africa are not designed with strong security measures in mind, leaving players and organizers vulnerable.
From phishing scams to DDoS attacks, cyber threats in esports can undermine trust and limit growth. This is an area where Valvur is actively working to provide solutions, ensuring that players, organizers, and investors can engage in esports with confidence. Secure platforms, robust fraud detection, and cybersecurity education need to be at the core of Africa’s esports expansion.

The Future: A Call for Collaboration

The time to act is now. If you are interested in esports projects that create real impact—not just flashy PR moments—then Africa is where you should be looking.
